Born into a large family of many talented kids and talented Parents.
Verse's Jamaican Parents, Patricia Pryce was a singer and his father
Donald Excell was a Writer/Poet. "Sekou Excell aka Versatile Excell" was
born in Brooklyn, NY as well as raised for his teen years in Australia and was destined to do anything less than his Last
name. Given the name "Versatile" by a girl who asked him about his dreams. He kept
it as it described everything about him. Wheth
er
his change of style in music, clothing, scriptwriting or acting skills.
His greatest
influences was the females in his family due to the older males in his
family not being there. Whether prison for his father and Uncle or
police brutality leading to the death of his Uncle "Steve Excell". All
the boys grew there self up to be men and the journey is still going. He
began writing songs, poems and scripts in his own privacy while living
overseas in Australia to help relieve his stress and stay out of
trouble.
Although a energetic and funny person, Verse was humble about telling
people about his ideas. Wanting to be a Film Writer and Actor. He wanted
to network more and decided to do Intern for VP Records to get an idea
of what people like to hear and to see Legendary artists perform such as
Capleton and the Great Shabba Ranks. But still he left the music to his
family including GrandFather "Dudley Grinjah Excell" who is on the
classic "Mavado" albums "Gangster for Life" & "Mr.Brooks (A Better
tomorrow)" portraying his Father. But close friend of the family but
known to him as another sister the talented "Princess Menen" influenced
Verse to start doing music. It wasn't until the beginning of 2008 that
he jumped onto a beat jacking freestyle on the Shawty Lo hit "Dey Know"
that Versatile then knew that he had
an interest in pursuing music. "Princess Menen", "Versatile Excell and
other members then started the "Moves Fe Mek" team which is an positive
forward movements for Success. But his biggest challenge was yet to come
in such little time of the beginning of his early career was doing a
track and performing with the great "Princess Menen" live at Brooklyn's
own nightclub "Djumbala" for the Legendary "Sizzla" for his Earthstrong
(Birthday) in April of 2008. He felt nervous,
unprepared and that it was too soon. Feeling like he couldn't bring the
energy and talent that Princess could. He grabbed the mic and went on
stage, but like many of his Moves Fe Mek affiliates told him "he can do
it" and he did. Then leading onto many Performances including Opening up
for then new comer Serani at the Tough Brooklyn "Temptations"
nightclub. As well as Foxy Brown In Newark NJ, with Young Aura. He then
decided that videos may be a better outreach to people as he made first
video, his Smoking Proud Anthem with Yung Joka and Princess Menen beat
jacking on Timbaland's
"Say Something" called "Smoke Something". He then Joined his longtime
friends by creating H.P.C (Hater Proof Certified) then Releasing his
first mixtape "DivERSity hosted by Hot97s DJ Cipha Sounds.. .By then he
had his own producers, Japanese Producer "Snow Beatz" Brazilian
Producer/Clothing
Designer Charles Holt "Charles Holt Music", NEM Productions, Duck
Dodgers and Vybz Kartel Super Reggae Producer "Tarik Russian Johnston
(Head Concussion). Helping him Create his Recent Mixtape
"DiVERSity2:Growth" marketing his "IPodShuffle Music" sound which is
Reggae vs. Hip Hop vs. R&B. Since then he has been recording and
co-producing every chance he gets while still grinding to keep his head
above water, getting his name known out there and continuing to Dream
on. "We gotta make it, whether its one of us or all, we gotta just start
grabbing them by the ears, cause talent is out there waiting to be
heard. Progress is in Session, Money is to be made, People who we
haven't met, Moves haffi Mek... Besides if not me, we all over the
world. You may have a lot of people to stop, in order to stop this
movement"
